Migraines – What Society Doesn’t Want You to Know

Introduction to the Migraine

A migraine is often confused with a normal headache by the people, who do not know anything about it. But in actuality it is a neurological disease. A slight dose of drugs is enough to cure a headache but it is not the case with Migraine. A person having Migraine needs extraordinary care and a special treatment.

Symptoms of Migraine

A person cannot perform his / her usual routine activities for a particular period, if he is suffering from this disorder. The people suffering from Migraine usually experience severe headache and abdominal pain. They most often have complaint of dizziness and weakness in their body. Sometimes they also suffer from diarrhea, nausea, high temperature and vomiting. They have increased sensitivity to smell, sound and light. They may also have blurred vision. A Migraine attack can last from some hours to one week time

Phases of Migraine

Generally, Migraine has four phases, which are called prodrome, aura, pain and postdrome phase. In prodrome phase, early symptoms of Migraine like weakness, fever, headache, etc can be seen in the patient suffering. In this phase, the growth of Migraine is noticeable. In Aura phase, main symptoms of migraine are visible. In the pain phase of Migraine, the patient suffers from extreme headache or the real migraine headache. And the postdrom phase is the last phase of the Migraine headache.

Causes of Migraines

There are number of reasons that cause Migraine. High stress and sudden rest, disturbs our Central Nervous System which usually results in attack of headaches while resting. Long sleeps should be avoided in order to avoid these kinds of headache attacks. Migraine is also caused due to hormonal fluctuations. Hormonal fluctuations can occur because of stress or over excitement. When a person undergoes excitement, adrenaline is secreted in high levels which cause stress and hence, headache attack is triggered. Irregular sleep patterns also lead to Migraine. A long weekend sleep or a long sleep after a tiring day can be delightful while sleeping but afterwards the attack may be triggered. Exposure to smoke is a major cause of Migraine. Researches show that more than fifty percent of the Migraine patients became migraine free by just giving up smoking. Some eating habits, which doesn’t suit you body, can lead to Migraine symptoms and eventually cause Migraine.

Migraine Management

Migraine can be cured by following specific diets which helps in reducing the migraine attacks. Intake of salt, alcohol, chocolate, red wine, caffeine, nut products and processed meat should be reduced. Development of Migraine can be decreased by reducing the stress from you daily life. One should modify his lifestyle to a tension free and pressure free lifestyle to wipe out stress from his life. Introducing yoga and mental exercised will greatly help you to reduce the stress levels.
