Exercise and nutrition always go hand in hand for optimal health and general well being. Exercise increases your metabolism, the process of burning calories obtained from food. Exercise, especially aerobic exercise, plays a major role in the weight management process. Of course, one should not just rely on exercise for weight loss and overlook the power of balanced nutrition. Exercise and balanced nutrition complement each other by increasing each other’s effect synergistically.
With moderate exercise, the blood circulation is improved and that results into proper distribution of the nutrients to all the body organs for their proper growth. Exercise also helps the body with the elasticity of the muscles. A lack of exercise may result into tissue injuries, such as pain in the lower back, neck and shoulder areas. Lack of exercise due to the busy and stressful lifestyle in the western world is the second biggest factor leading to weight gain and obesity, after excess calorie and fat intake. Therefore, cutting down on total calorie and fat intake, incorporating moderate exercise in daily schedule, and consuming a diet balanced in macro and micro nutrients would lead to a healthy weight management.
How much physical activity do adults (18 to 64 years of age) need?
Below are the exercise guidelines for adults from Center for Disease Control and Prevention:
Adults need at least:
• 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity (i.e., brisk walking) every week, and
• muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week that work all major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders, and arms).
Here is the good news: 10 minutes at a time is fine.
We know 150 minutes each week sounds like a lot of time, but you don’t have to do it all at once. Not only is it best to spread your activity out during the week, but you can break it up into smaller chunks of time during the day. As long as you’re doing your activity at a moderate or vigorous effort for at least 10 minutes at a time.
Now, here is the type of exercise you can easily do during your day to lose unwanted weight. Give it a try:
1. Try going for a 10-minute brisk walk, 3 times a day, 5 days a week. This will give you a total of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity.
2. Find the farthest parking spot when you go out shopping in the mall or grocery store and walk back.
3. Instead of taking elevator or escalator next time, challenge yourself with taking stairs.…

My tips for the busy woman:
1. Make time get the family to agree that they will do a day of chores and you will rest and do some good cardio exercise a proper workout, get help to plan this and if possible consult a gym.
2. Running, find time to just run the block 20 minutes a day would be great but even two or three times a week would help. You may get some company on this after a while and get to spend some time with the neighbours.
3. Drink lots of water and cut out the fizzy drinks, this will increase energy and motivate you for the little runs round the block.
4. Music, turn the music on when doing the vacuuming you may find a little step here and there will increase your natural energy levels.
5. Walk faster, perhaps you have slowed right down as you walk with the children, those daily places you walk to just do it a bit quicker.
6. Stick to the diet programme you have selected, no adjustments substitutions or excuses stick with it for the recommended time and see the difference. Of course this does not apply if it is giving you physical difficulties and of course consult your doctor.
Of course these sound very simple and basic they are, but they will help and this must be a journey where every little thing we do helps reduce weight after all we did not sit down one day and just become the weight we are it was gradual and it was little things that built up and got us there.

How to Help Your Child Play Soccer in the World Cup

As USA ends a hard fought World Cup game against the high ranked England, I couldn’t help thinking about my own children playing soccer. How would it feel to have my child play inthe World Cup? How would I feel just to see any of them play on that amazing stage? More importantly, how do I help my children continue to love the game and play at their top level.
So, how can we help them perform at their top level? I will give you the top 6 ways I help my children perform at the top level (while still having fun):
1. The Soccer Boot: Like most sports, soccer should be done with the correct shoegear (the soccer cleat or boot as it is often called). The design of the boot will allow correct functioning of the foot, better traction on the field and limit the most common injuries to the foot. It also facilitates the correct biomechanics of kicking.
2. Shin Guard: Most leagues recommend (and may demand) shin guard use. This is a protection of the front of the ankle to avoid bruising or even fractures to the tibia (shin bone). Many shin guards also provide some protection to the bones of an ankle.
3. Proper Nutrition: Proper hydration and diet eaten 30-45 minutes before warmup can lead to more energy during the game. Proper carbohydrate use and hydration, including electrolytes during the game can lead to a better energy throughout the game.
4. Proper Preparation: As with many sports, the conditioning of a player is imperative. For a regular soccer game, a player will run approximately 5 or 6 miles, so a player should be prepared to perform at this level during a typical match.
5. Dynamic Stretching: A proper warmup involves dynamic stretching. Dynamic stretching includes stretching the muscles while moving (running or walking). Static stretching is more common, but usually doesn’t properly prepare the muscle for match conditions.
6. Play To Have Fun: When the game becomes a chore, most players don’t play as well. My recommendation is to play hard, but have fun. It is usually obvious to see when a player is having fun and they always play better.
Using these techniques, my children are loving to play soccer and are improving regularly. I continue to cheer and coach them at whatever level they are playing from recreation to competition levels and now even high school soccer. What a great game for my children! Go USA!…
